How do you stay motivated?
OAMA has Muay Thai and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu online Zoom classes offered multiple times a day. We wanted to know what else our instructors are doing to stay motivated and train at home.
Recently we asked Aramiss Mohamed, OAMA’s Muay Thai instructor, these questions and what he loves about Muay Thai. Here’s what he had to say:
What do you do to stay motivated?
“To stay motivated, I try to stay focused by always reminding myself of my end goal and making myself little goals along my journey. It’s very important to surround yourself with good people, training partners, and instructors with similar goals and who believe in you and express that.”
What tips/guidance do you suggest for training at home (other than Zoom classes)?
“Other than Zoom, work on your conditioning by running and doing calisthenics and most importantly working on flexibility and mobility.”
What is your favourite part of training?
“My favourite part…I love every part of it! But if I had to choose one it would be when you get those hard training sessions before a fight(or just a hard session) and you’re gassing out in front of everyone, and they’re all encouraging and pushing you to keep going.”
What is your favourite Muay Thai move?
“My favourite move defensively I’d say my slips and offensively I’d say my spinning back kick.”
Who do you look up to in the Muay Thai community?
“Growing up I never really knew or watched a lot of Muay Thai. But in the last couple of years, I’ve really loved to watch Saenchai, Lerdsila, and Rodtang, thanks to Stefan Dronjak who is also a young professional fighter that really inspires me a lot. I can’t wait to see him do great things and he is also from an affiliate school of ours (M.A.S ACADEMY).”
Is there a message you would like to share with OAMA members?
“Keep pushing through these tough and weird times. Stay healthy mentally, physically, and emotionally because everyone’s fighting a battle we can’t see. Keep good energy, keep your head up and spend time with your family, friends, and loved ones.”
