“If you do what you love,
you’ll never work a day in your life.”
This week’s Meet the Team spotlight is on Amy Reid – OAMA’s lead Muay Thai instructor.
Amy’s dad, a professional kickboxer, introduced her to martial arts. At first, she didn’t know why anyone would want to do it. But that all changed once she started training.
“I loved it and knew it’s what I wanted to do. 10 or 15 years ago I never thought this would be my full-time career, just a hobby.”
Amy worked at the front desk when she first started with OAMA 4 years ago. Now, she’s the lead Muay Thai instructor teaching children and adult programs.
Professionally, she has 7 titles under her belt – 2 World titles and 5 Canadian titles.
Amy represented Canada in November 2019 in the East vs West Competition against China and won after an amazing match!
When asked what her greatest accomplishment is, Amy said “seeing the growth in the students is my accomplishment…We have a great team here in the Muay Thai community in Ottawa.”
“OAMA is a family. For anything in life, we count on each other. If you’re feeling left out anywhere else, you come here and you definitely feel appreciated.”
Watch Amy’s video on our YouTube channel here.
We also have fight videos and breakdowns of some of her past fights. They are truly epic! If you’ve never seen Amy in action, now’s your chance.
If you’d like to learn from Amy, or any of our instructors, join a Zoom class. Muay Thai and BJJ are offered every day!
We know it’s been a long haul. And training isn’t the same as in the dojo. We encourage you to connect with our instructors for guidance or ideas on training at home. They are also available for 1 on 1 private training. Our staff team is here and eager to teach you and help you with your goals.
We’d love to see you in Zoom class. And we can’t wait to see everyone on the mats and in person soon.
