Announcing…OAMA Comp Team at it again!
Coach Jo Maisonneuve is in Texas this Saturday, Feb 27th, at Submissions on the Shore in a 3 vs 3, 16 team tournament.
Submissions on the Shore is the first Jiu-Jitsu promoter of its kind in North America, focusing on women-only tournaments. Their purpose is to encourage more women and youth to pursue jiu-jitsu and give them opportunities as is afforded to their male counterparts.
They were recently featured in a MMA News article, where Cortney Danielle Carlson, one of Subs on the Shore’s creators, said, “As a woman myself, I can only hope that more organizations start hosting more female cards so that all of these talented women can showcase their skills on a variety of stages.”
This will be their 13th all-female tournament.
Jo has participated in many of these tournaments and says it’s one of her favourite ones. The camaraderie amongst the competitors and the organizers is reminiscent of a family. They cheer each other on, even if they’re competing against one another.
This goes to show that martial arts are a team and family sport. And OAMA’s motto of “organized like a team, fight like a family” rings true.
If you would like to watch one of Jo’s fights at Subs on the Shore, the video of her first match in California last year has reached over 40,ooo views on YouTube! You can watch the match here.

Thank You to all OAMA members who have helped Jo prepare for this competition, and to Jo’s sponsors, Anytime Fitness Carling Ave and Integrated Touch Physiotherapy, for all your support.
