Muay Thai & Kickboxing
OAMA offers one the best Muay Thai training in the Ottawa region.
All of our world class experienced and certified Krus (teachers) have trained with the best in the world and give everything into each class they teach in order to ensure OAMA’s Muay Thai program stays at the top!
Whether your goals are getting in shape, gaining knowledge of this incredibly powerful art, or becoming a world champion, it is all possible with OAMA Muay Thai.
Muay Thai is a style of kickboxing and the national sport of Thailand.
The basic offensive techniques in Muay Thai use hands, elbows, kicks and knees to punch and kick the opponent.
To hinder an opponent for both offensive and defensive purposes, small amounts of stand-up grappling are used: the clinch.
Defensively, the shoulders, arms and legs are used to thwart the attacker from successfully executing his techniques.
Almost all techniques in Muay Thai use the entire body movement, rotating the hip with each kick, punch and block.
OAMA Muay Thai Program
The OAMA Thai program is broken down into distinct classes to provide the best training possible from the novice to the pro-fighter.
Our Basic Muay Thai program includes the Conditioning class and the Technique class.
The conditioning class focuses on training methods to develop a well conditioned body. This might include: skipping, push-ups, crunches and pad work as well as other conditioning exercises.
The pad work is the biggest focus of the conditioning class- you will not only get a great work out from smashing the pads, you will also be improving your technique at the same time.
The technique class will focus primarily on the foundations of the art of Muay Thai and prepare the student for the Advanced program.
In the technique class setting you will be working on all of the basic strikes and defenses in the art of eight limbs.
The Advanced program is the next level of training focusing more specific drills that put your new found tools into practice- This is really the class where you start to put it all together.
Enrollment in the Advanced program is based on a minimum 9 months basic training and/or approval from your Kru.
Competing in Muay Thai is completely optional and no pressure is ever put on students to do so. If this is something you would like to do our experienced team will guide you every step of the way.
Muay Thai Elite Program
The Muay Thai elite program was created to help you get the “Thailand training experience” without being in Thailand.
In Thailand at a Muay Thai camp you would be training three hours in the morning and three hours in the evening. At OAMA you can do the same! Train noon and then jump into our elite Muay Thai class to get right into it for the following two hours.
The Elite Muay Thai is a smaller class where you will get more focused attention and in turn will raise your skill level much quicker.
It is common for many of our competitors and coaches to also be training in this class, so you will get exposure to the most experienced people in our organization.
